CAMPAIGNERS UNITE IN UNIQUE PLAN TO BLOCK MASTS

Labour's Sutton Coldfield Campaigner Dr Rob Pocock is spearheading a unique attempt to stave off yet another unacceptable mobile phone mast proposal.

Plans have been announced for a 10.3 metre mast at the junction of Chester Road and Antrobus Road, next to the 'Place 2B' pub.
The site is unique in being right at the juncture of three Council Wards - Vesey, Kingstanding and Erdington.
Dr Pocock has therefore formed a joint campaign with neighbouring Councillors from these other two Wards, in what is believed to be the biggest joint initiative in the City ever to coordinate opposition to the unacceptable location of phone masts.
Commenting on the campaign, Dr Pocock said, "Nothing is more frustrating than having a plan like this slap bang on the border of three Council wards.
The danger is that we'll all get picked off one by one.
My Kingstanding colleague Councillor Zoe Hopkins and I met urgently last week and over the weekend we coordinated the distribution of thousands of leaflets across the boundary area, aiming to unite all residents from the areas affected.

This is a unique effort and by combining forces this way we hope to maximise the impact.
It's important to me that the concerned residents in Sutton team up with those from other parts of Birmingham who are equally affected.
All too often we hear of rivalry and resentment between Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield. This campaign shows why we should put aside these petty squabbles and help bring people together in the defence of common interests either side of the notorious border!"
